Digital TV…are you ready?

The switchover to the new digital TV service has begun with the first of the regions, Border already commencing transmissions on the 6th November (see below for a full timetable of the when the regions will move from terrestrial to digital). Now we will not try to go down the route of telling you that a new digital television is required to receive Freeview channels, because in the vast majority of cases you DON’T. However what you will need is a digital tuner which is usually via a set top box, plus ensuring your aerial is up to scratch.

The simplest check to see what you require is to look at the back of your television. If your TV has a SCART socket all you will need is a digital set top box that simply plugs into the SCART socket.

Now don’t panic if your TV does not have a SCART socket, as you’re still ok but you will need a further piece of equipment* to connect between the TV and set top box. This method will still save you money if you’re not ready to change your TV as the old adage goes, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ Read the rest of this entry »
